Portland’s A Cappella Program
Summer 2026
Summer Drop-ins
The foundation of our summer program is the drop-in song workshops, held on Tuesday evenings, from June 23 through July 28, 2026.
Whether you’ve sung with regularly or want to check us out for the first time, we invite you to join PDX Vox singers & instructors to sing along with two of the past year’s song arrangements each week. This is a great way to connect with PDX Vox staff and singers, revisit or learn some a cappella songs, and for newcomers to get a feel for the way we do things.
Dates: Every Tuesday from June 23rd through July 29th
Time: 7:00 - 9:00
Location: Outside Carvlin Hall at St. Philip Neri, SE 16th and Division (inside if weather requires it).
Cost & registration: $25 per 2-hour session, pre-payment at PDX Vox Payments is preferred (payment also accepted on site)
Summer Classes
We’re offering three different classes this summer. These are open to all adults and older teens, and will meet in our rehearsal classroom inside the Parish Center at St. Philip Neri, SE 16th and Division.
Pre-registration is required and class minimums must be met in order for the class to be held.
Class 1: Beginner Songwriting for Recovering Perfectionists
This four-week class will teach you everything you need to get started with songwriting: generating melodies and chord progressions, writing lyrics, and learning how to record/communicate the song once it is written. This class is taught with an emphasis on process over product with the goal of quieting your inner perfectionist.
Knowing how to play a chordal instrument is helpful, but not required. Knowing some basic music theory is also helpful, but not required. Attendees of this workshop can expect to leave with at least one original song complete (quality not guaranteed)!
Instructor: Katy Ohsiek
Class Format & Cost: $100 for the 4-class series
Schedule: Sundays from 4 - 6 pm
Dates: July 12th, July 19th, July 26th, August 2nd

Class 2: Harmony Workshop
This is a two-session workshop where we will work on improvising harmonies. Workshop attendees will be asked to familiarize themselves with 3-4 popular songs provided ahead of time to use in the class. We will talk about some of the theory behind it, but mostly focus on getting your reps in!
Instructor: Katy Ohsiek
Class Format & Cost: $50 for the 2 class series

Class 3: Beginning Ukulele
Have you always wanted to accompany yourself on an instrument? Did someone gift you a ukulele in the past or you picked one up on vacation and have been waiting for the right time to learn? This 3 week class is for you. In this beginning ukulele class, we will cover the basics like how to hold and tune your instrument, beginning chords and progressions, a variety of strumming patterns, and more! We will practice our new skills playing through several popular songs to get you feeling comfortable and confident on your new instrument. We will have you comfortably playing songs by the time we're done. You This class would also be appropriate if you learned beginning skills a long time ago and need a refresher!

Schedule: Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00 pm
Dates: August 5th, 12th, and 19th
